Week 10 Review

Something I found interesting from this weeks announcements was Harry Potter Meets Hindu Mythology . I found it interesting how many comparisons can be drawn between Harry Potter and Hindu mythology. Meme of Suga from BTS to get me through the week Source

Learning Challenge: The Magic Of The Book

The Magic Of The Book: Hermann Hesse On Why We Read And Always Will: One thing I already knew is that we have not reached the point where technology like the radio and film has not completely taken everything away from the book. Something new I learned is the idea that Hermann Hesse entertains of the book as spiritual value to human life. I want to explore the works written by Hermann Hesse more because he's a person I had never of until literally a couple of weeks ago. After reading this article I became even more curious of what his books are like so I would like to try reading one. Reading Meme Source

Growth Mindset: Why Developing A Creative Mindset Requires You To Be Diverse In Who You Learn From And Where You Learn From

Why Developing A Creative Mindset Requires You To Be Diverse In Who You Learn From And Where You Learn From: Something I already knew from this article is that not everything you need to know you learn in school. One new thing I've learned is that creativity is a mindset. Creativity is definitely something I thought was a talent, but now I can see how it is a mindset. I'm curious to explore creativity as a mindset, and I can probably start doing that by looking up articles on how to do this and then eventually I can try putting into practice. Famous Last Words: YouTube Addiction

My readings went really well this week. I like the video options for reading because I can still do other things while watching the video and do other assignments that way. The visuals and the more modern twist to the story actually help me understand the Mahabharata better. Also the confusing family relationships make a lot more sense, and I’m seeing the Mahabharata in the sense that it’s a story about one huge cycle of karma. So I think it’s good to have the viewpoint that these videos are giving me. I’ve read a lot of stories in the class so far and some of the ones I’ve liked and seen as the more successful ones have been the ones where people have noticed relationships between the original story and other stories they’ve read and then mashed them together. For example, one of the ones I’ve read today have been about the battle at the end of the Mahabharata and the antagonist was compared to Dracula, which is something I had never thought of before, and the author mixed the two to

Tech Tip: Blogger Template

For this weeks tech tip I decided to redo my blogger template because at the beginning of the year I just kind of randomly chose a template that I liked and didn't change anything about it. So I decided to explore my options and customize my blog. I decided to get rid of the picture at the top so my blog could just put the focus on whatever post I did that day.

Wikipedia Trail: From Picasso to Salt Institute for Biological Studies

Pablo Picasso I saw Picasso on the class twitter feed, and chose to start my trail with him because he's one of the few modern artists that I like. Paloma Picasso I chose to go to this article because I was curious to Picasso's children. Jonas Salk I chose to move on to Paloma's stepfather because his name sounded familiar. Then I realized it sounded familiar because he was the guy who developed the first successful polio vaccine. Salt Institute for Biological Studies I chose to go from Salk to the Salk Institute because as an architecture major I've actually seen this building multiple times. I mostly see it when talking about its' architect Louis Khan.                         Salt Institute for Biological Studies                                                  Source                                                                                                                              Picasso                         Source

Week 10 Story: Arjuna's Journey Philosophy

Arjuna was a regular 21 st century man who had once lived with his five brothers and his mother. One day however him and his brother fought over a woman named Draupadi. So Arjuna decided instead of fighting with his brother he would go on a journey backpacking all over the India. The first place Arjuna ended up was near the Himalayas right next to the Ganga river. For months Arjuna camped there and would bathe in the Ganga. One day while bathing Arjuna all of sudden passed out and when he woke up there was beautiful women above him. Arjuna asked, “Who are you?” The beautiful women replied, “I am Ulupi. I live nearby and I saw you pass out in the river and dragged you out of the river.” Arjuna said, “Thanks, but I must really be going.” But Ulupi stopped him and said, “But I’ve been watching you for months and I have fallen in love with you.” So Arjuna returned to Ulupi’s home with her, and stayed with her and her family. Then one day a couple of months later Arjun

Learning Challenge: Why Sleeping May Be More Important Than Studying

Why Sleeping May Be More Important Than Studying I already knew that you shouldn't study all night, and that if you didn't get enough sleep you could do worse on a test or in class in general. I didn't know that in REM sleep you consolidate more and get rid of useless information to make more room for the useful information. I am curious to explore how long REM sleep is and when approximately it starts and ends so I can make sure I have enough sleep to at least get through that stage of the sleeping cycle. Growth Mindset: Scientist Finds Secret to Thriving

Scientist Finds Secret to Thriving One thing confirmed for me in this article is that in order to thrive people must be pleased with their current life. One thing I'm curious to explore is how I can thrive in my field once I've graduated and started working. I guess one way to act on this curiosity is to do some research into the past and see how people in my field have managed to thrive, and what they've done to achieve this. And then think about how I to can thrive. Thriving Meme Source

Famous Last Words: I'll do it Tuesday.

My readings for this week actually went well I did both of them, and I fully understood what was going on. The only problem I had was that I probably took to many notes, and I also forgot to do the declaration for one of them. My story this week was kind of done in a rush and I wish I had more time to do that. My biggest problem was making myself do the extra credit I desperately needed to do I said I would do half of them Tuesday and the other half on Thursday when I don’t have class. In the end I only did a couple Tuesday and the rest Sunday. Some things I’ve noticed from other students’ blogs and stories where the author’s notes, and how I could improve on my own author’s notes with being more specific on what I did or didn’t incorporate into the story and why I made those decisions. I have noticed connections between my other classes and this one specifically how my studio class basically has taken priority over all my other classes which is sad. Know though we have started the fi

Week 9 Review

The one item I found interesting in the announcements was the project Barney's Blog: How to Be Awesome . When I saw this I knew it would be the interesting thing because I love How I Met Your Mother, and Barney is my favorite character in the show. I absolutely love the New Plays from the Playbook page it's my favorite thing that Barney does in How I Met Your Mother. Barney's Playbook Source

Week 9 Story: Bedtime Story vs. Mulan

"Okay children. Come sit down and I'll tell you a bedtime story." said the Grandfather to his grandchildren . “But grandpa you always tell a story. I want to watch a movie. Let’s watch a movie instead. I want to watch Mulan” said Priya. “Back in my day they didn’t have those fancy DVD players to watch Disney movies on all day so we’re going to have a story instead of you rotting your brains out in front of the TV.” the grandfather replied. The grandchildren groaned but still listened as he started the story. “Now I will continue where I left off last time with the story of how the Pandavas came into being. A long time ago there was a kingdom with three brothers. The oldest was Dhristarshtra the king who ruled in name only, the second son was Pandu the beloved son and the one who ran the kingdom, and the third son was Vidura who helped Pandu rule the kingdom. Now one day the Pandu decided to go on a hunting trip through the forest with his two wives, and while the

Episode 9 Kunti has son god child Episode 10 Pandu got cursed in the most ridiculous way Episode 11 Kunti had three children by gods Madri had two children by gods I find it ridiculous that it's okay for a woman to have a child with a god if she's married, but not if she isn't Pandu raped Madri and died Madri decided to kill herself because of her idiot husband Episode 12 Gandhri gave birth to demon children First indication of something wrong with her children probably should have been that they were made out of a putrid lump of flesh Episode 13 Duryohodhana is a spoiled brat who became jealous of his cousins King Shakani acted like a child and stirred things up with Duryohodhana and the Pandavas Episode 14 Bheem was almost killed by Duryohdhana  Bheem got super strength Episode 15 Drona got ball out of well and became Pandavas tutor Episode 16 Started learning from Drona Episode 17 Arjuna acted like a child

Wikipedia Trail: From Selena to BTS

I started off with Selena because when I was on google earlier I saw she was the google doodle today and I also saw it on the class twitter stream. Although I don't listen to tejano music and don't know any of her songs I thought I should still do this trail starting with her. Mostly because I think she's an inspiration for anyone who wants to be a musician in a genre of music isn't as popular in mainstream US music. She was one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, and I think that's because of the achievements in music that she reached. Selena's article sent me to the article for the Billboard music awards. I wanted to go this one because because the album it was referring to allowed her to tour in the US, and I was curious to see if she won the awards it was mentioning. The Billboard music awards led me to the 2017 Billboard music awards page. And if i'm being completely honest its because at this point I realized where I could, and wante

Week 8 Progress

My progress this far hasn't been that great. I tend to do all the weekly assignments just fine, but the weekend assignment I tend to skip out on sometimes. For the second half of the semester I should probably try doing the weekend assignments during the week, and from now I should try to utilize the extra credit options as often as I can so I can get to the point that I want to be at. A meme of Rap monster from one of my favorite groups BTS Source

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Overall the feedback I get is excellent. It is very helpful and allows me to improve my posts and stories. I haven't been as good about giving feedback as I should be so I hope to improve my feedback in the future. I think the blogs actually help to let me get to know people and help them get to know me. In the future I need to give a lot more feedback, and also start to make more helpful suggestions instead of just praising. I need to try harder with feedback Source

Week 8 Reading and Writing

Overall my reading and story assignments have been working well for me. My reading notes have made sure I remember the story while also reminding what I did or didn't like about them. My class project is also going well the only big problem being that I'm not doing very well with meeting the required length of each part of the project. My biggest accomplishment for this class writing wise is that I have been able to be somewhat more creative than I usually am because of the less rigid rules in how I can write my stories. The one think I need to better looking forward is to increase the length of my stories and probably work on my grammar skills. Moving forward while looking forward Source

Reading Notes: Narayan's Mahabharata Section D

Chapter 13 At least Krishna will stand up for Draupadi. Dhritarashtra isn't very smart. Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Duryodhana never makes good decisions. Karna is really loyal. I like hoe Duryodhana blames the Pandavas for the death of his loved ones when all this is his fault in the first place. Chapter 16 Epilogue Bibliography: The Mahabharata by R.K. Reading Notes: Narayan's Mahabharata Section C

Chapter 9 Why so petty? It's nice that the Pandavas' helped Duryoghana. I think Yudhistira has a gambling problem. So much for them protecting their wife. Chapter 10 The king has a really short temper. Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Dhristarashtra needs to grow a backbone. Also why does he ignore the overwhelming amount of advice given to him by all these people. Bibliography: The Mahabharata by R.K. Narayan The Pandavas' preparing for war Source
