Famous Last Words: YouTube Addiction

My readings went really well this week. I like the video options for reading because I can still do other things while watching the video and do other assignments that way. The visuals and the more modern twist to the story actually help me understand the Mahabharata better. Also the confusing family relationships make a lot more sense, and I’m seeing the Mahabharata in the sense that it’s a story about one huge cycle of karma. So I think it’s good to have the viewpoint that these videos are giving me. I’ve read a lot of stories in the class so far and some of the ones I’ve liked and seen as the more successful ones have been the ones where people have noticed relationships between the original story and other stories they’ve read and then mashed them together. For example, one of the ones I’ve read today have been about the battle at the end of the Mahabharata and the antagonist was compared to Dracula, which is something I had never thought of before, and the author mixed the two together pretty well. In the first half of the semester I noticed most of my other classes suffered because of my attention being focused on my studio class, but now I’ve noticed in this half of the semester it’s flipped. Now that I have more freedom in my studio class I’m catching up in my other classes and putting my studio class in the back seat. My hopes for this coming week are that I can find a nice balance between all my classes that doesn’t involve me falling behind or slack off in any of them. I also hope that I can manage to get things done in a timely fashion and that I won’t have to spend so much time on them that I’m not getting enough sleep.

Deadline Meme

  1. Firstly Trishna, I love what you have done to your blog template! The black and teal bounce off each other nicely and they are a few of my favorite colors. Secondly, I love your meme! Super hilarious! Back to your post. I do not know if I can exactly relate to your preference of watching the videos versus reading. If I am watching the videos, I still have to pay attention to it if I want to have a clearer understanding, though I wish I could watch them and do other things at the same time, like you. I can multitask, but it just depends on the tasks. I like that you noticed the theme of Karma after watching the videos, I have not actually thought of that until you pointed it out. I can also relate in terms of the readings and writings of other classmates that tie the original stories and other stories together. It is always fun to see the outcome. I hope you find your balance, because I struggle with mine as well and I definitely place other classes in the back seat versus some that can be worked on a lot quicker and easier. Sleep is important! I am trying to find time for that too, good luck!

  2. Hi Trishna!

so the Dwight meme PERFECTLY describes how I feel about all assignments. It isn't until there is a deadline that I begin to freak out and actually due the assignments. Hence why I am sitting here at 1 am finishing up this weeks extra credits!

The title of your post is what really caught my attention. I too have been enjoying the videos that have retold the Mahabharata and Ramayana. I really had a hard time following the stories until I watched the youtube videos.

Have a great rest of the semester.

  3. Hey Trishna!
First off, I LOVE THE MEME. If that's not the truth I don't know what is, nothing makes work get done faster than an approaching deadline and fear of either not completing it or completing it late! I haven't watched any of the videos, but that really seems like a good idea to get a better grasp on the events. I see that it helped you, so I might choose this option in the future.
I hope you have a great rest of your semester!

Week 14 Story: The Unknown Brother

One day Narada had a mango and he decided to go and offer it to one of Shiva’s sons. As he was making the climb up Mount Kailasa Narada wondered which of Shiva’s sons he should give the mango to. Unable to decide, Narada came up with an idea to decide who to give the mango to. Narada finally made it to the top and sitting there were the people he had come looking for. Shiva smiled and said, “What brings you here to today, Narada?” Narada smiled at Shiva and Parvati and then turned towards their sons and said, “I came to give this mango to one of your sons. I have also made a competition to decide who gets the mango. The person who can go around the world three times before the other gets the mango.” And with that statement Kartikeya jumped onto his peacock and immediately went off. As he was going around the world Ganesha just sat there and happily watched his brother going around the world. As they sat there Parvati and Narada were wondering why Ganesha did not get up...

Week 12 Story: Radha's Heartbreak

Radha was pacing around the lake in the village muttering to herself, “I have had enough of Krishna and his player ways.” “Who are you talking to,” said a voice from behind her. Radha whirled around and saw a mysterious man. She said, “Who are you?” The mysterious man replied, “Just a passerby who happened to hear you muttering to yourself. You know a good way to vent your anger out is to just talk about it.” Radha eyed the mysterious man and then she decided that it might be for the best if she talked to someone about it, and since she had no friends this man was just as good as any. “OK,” she said. And so her story began. “It all started many years ago. I was born and raised in a village called Gokul. My whole life I had grown up alongside Krishna, and as long as I can remember I have always loved him.  He was a very popular man among the gopis who always tried to catch his attention, but he always kept his eyes on me. I would do absolutely anything for h...
