Introduction To a Future Architect

My name is Trishna Patel and I'm a second year architecture major. My main hobby (if you can consider it one) is watching tv mostly tv shows, documentaries, and anime. I also like to watch movies. Mostly action and sci-fi movies but also ones based off of real life stories. I absolutely love all the Marvel movies and the Harry Potter movies. I also like to read books mostly young adult and romance books. If I'm not doing either of the two I'm usually in my studio classroom in Gould Hall doing whatever project I was assigned.

This summer I went on vacation in Africa. My dad was born in Zambia and spent most of his childhood there so he wanted to show us the place he grew up in. We spent two days in Lusaka where he was born, and then we went to Livingston where we saw Victoria Falls. We also spent some time in Tanzania where we took a day hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro and a week long safari in various different parks.

I also went to London for a couple of days. One of the best parts of that trip was going on the Harry Potter studio tour. It was awesome to see the original set where all the Harry Potter movies were made. I also went to the Tower of London and got to see the crown jewels and learned about the towers hundreds of years of history.

  1. I think you are the first-ever architecture student in this class, Trishna... which is so exciting! One of my favorite things about teaching Gen. Ed. classes is meeting people from all the different colleges and majors that OU offers. And what an amazing summer: Africa AND London - wow! I hope you will enjoy the class, and if you want to use it as an excuse to explore the history of sacred architecture in India, that would be a great contribution to the class. The temples of India are phenomenal, and some of them are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

  2. Hi Trishna! I really enjoyed reading your introduction. Africa is one of the few continents that I haven't made it to, and I would love to go see it. I can only imagine that seeing Victoria Falls is blow your mind awe inspiring! I spent a couple of days in London (it's my favorite city), but it was before they had opened the Harry Potter studio...now I have to go back just to see it!

  3. Hi Trishna! I love movies and T.V. shows too! I don't read as much, so I tend to rely on my movies and shows to get me by. My father and I usually try our best to watch all the hit movies the weekends they come out. If not in theaters, we rent them and watch them whenever we can! That's amazing that you visited where your father was born and raised. I have definitely never been to any of those places, not even London. I would love to visit them one day! You were so lucky to have toured the Harry Potter set! I love the movies/books and I love the Marvel series as well! Good luck this semester to come and hope to see more of your work! :D

  4. Hey Trishna! I don't meet very many architecture majors so that's super unique! What kind of stuff do you want to do later on in life? I also think it's super interesting that your dad is from Zambia! I bet that was a super fun and super enlightening trip. I've always wanted to explore Europe and Africa. There seem to be so many amazing places in the world that I've never been to so I'm jealous of your Africa trip and your London trip!!! I love Harry Potter with my heart and soul and the fact that you got to see the set!!! ahhhh! Super cool! And super pretty pictures of your trips :)

  5. Hey Trishna!
One of my major hobbies (and yes I think it's a hobby as well) is watching TV too! Being an Architecture major seems super cool. I bet you definitely spend a lot of time working on projects for the major. Also, Gould hall is so beautiful.
How cool that you got to visit and learn more about the place that your dad is from! It looks absolutely gorgeous. I bet that was a blast! I'd love to go to Africa some day and definitely London as well. You've already done both and that's awesome!

  6. Hi Trishna! Let me just start by saying it sounds like you had a pretty rockin summer! Sounds like you you got to see some pretty incredible things. I am mostly jealous of your Harry Potter studio tour. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and that just sounds so fun! Hopefully I have the opportunity to do that someday!

  7. Hi, Trishna! I think you wanting to be an architect is super cool. I haven't met anyone studying architecture. Also, I'm super jealous of all your travels. The photos you chose of Tanzania are beautiful! I've never been out of the United States, but I want to go to England more than anywhere else in the world. And I love Harry Potter (just like any normal person, lol), and I'm a Hufflepuff. What about you? I'm looking forward to reading some of your work this semester!

  8. Hi Trisha,
You are really well traveled. I can only imagine how wonderful other countries must look to an architect. Being able to see the various unique styles and influences in the buildings around the world must really make you appreciate your field. It's interesting that you like watching documentaries, I do too, but there seems to be an almost stigma against them to some people. If you are looking for something in netflix to watch I might suggest the documentary "Icarus". It is amazingly well done and very interesting.

  9. Hi Trishna!
I am so jealous that you got to go to Zambia and London! Those are two places that I have always wanted to go! Also if you are really into Harry Potter, you might be interested in The Dresden Files series. I have only read the first book of Harry Potter, so I am not sure how much they can compare, but I would say that it is like a more adult, American-styled version of Harry Potter without a wizarding school. Well I guess if you just like wizard books in general, you may like it!

    1. Hello Trishna !

Power to you for being an architecture major! I could not imagine majoring in that but I'm sure you will do great! It is great that you were able to travel with your father and create wonderful memories. I know you had a blast in London at the Harry Potter Studio. However, I love nature and I envy the fact that you saw how beautiful the Victoria Falls is in Tanzania.

  10. Hi Trishna!

I think it's so cool that you are an architect major. I've yet to meet one at OU, so you're pretty much the first one! Even though its just through a blog, I still consider it an introduction :). I think it's so cool that you got to go to Africa. I've been dreaming of the opportunity to go there for a whil now, and really hope that some day I can! I visited London a few summers ago and saw the Tower of London and enjoyed it so much. I learned more history in that short trip than I ever did in the classroom! Good luck with your stories this semester, and can't wait to read some of them!

  11. Trishna, TEACH ME YOUR WAYS OF BLOGGING! The way this blog is set up looks great! You are definitely going to do well in architecture because of your great design skills. A lot of people don't know this, but the school of architecture is one of the most difficult programs at OU. I applaud you for going into something like that and sticking with it. I certainly wish you the best with your semester and can't wait to see more posts from you!

  12. Hey Trishna! You sound like someone I'd love to be friends with! I absolutely LOVE traveling, and finally got to leave the country to visit Austria over the summer. I also went hiking in New Mexico a few years ago. It sounds like you've had some amazing adventures as well (a lot more than I have lol).
I couldn't help but notice you said you liked anime. I'm a huge fan and am even Secretary in OU's Anime Club. You should totally stop by sometime!

  13. Hi Trishna,

It is great to meet you. This blog is one of the coolest layouts I have been on, I love the black background. Now back to you, I think it is really cool that you want to be an architect. This was actually a dream of mine when I was little because I was so intrigued by the development of Dubai. It was great reading about you and I hope you have a great semester!

  14. Hi Trishna! I think we would really get along because I love watching tv shows, movies, and reading YA novels. Harry Potter is also one of my favorite series ever, I am a huge nerd about it. I can also tell by your newest story that you're a Doctor Who fan, which so I am! That's actually what my storybook is themed. I'm jealous about you going to Harry Potter studio tour. I would love to get to do that one day. I hope you're having a great semester!

  15. Hi Trishna!

I really enjoyed reading your introduction! I too love Harry Potter. I'm currently rereading the entire series and forcing one of my close friends to watch the movies for the first time. When I went to London a few years ago we went on a Harry Potter movie location tour around London but didn't get to go on the actual studio tour. Needless to say I am very jealous of you. I'm really glad I found your blog and look forward to reading more of your work!

  16. Hi Trishna! I found your introduction very interesting, and think the fact that you're also a Harry Potter fan is absolutely amazing! I binge watched the last four movies of the series this summer (since I hadn't seen them), and I remembered how much I loved Harry Potter when I was in elementary school. I think it's really cool that you went on on a Harry Potter studio tour; when I visited London in the summer, I didn't get to, unfortunately. Good luck with the rest of the semester, and I'm looking forward to reading more of your work!

  17. Hi Trishna! It sounds like you have done some awesome things! That's so cool that you got to go travel Africa with your dad, I bet he was so happy to share with you that part of his life. I have always wanted to go to Africa and do a safari. Africa has some of the most amazing and unique wildlife and I would love a chance to see some of it. London sounds amazing too! I bet the crown jewels were very cool to see. Thanks for sharing!

  18. Hi Trishna! That's awesome that you are an architect major! How do you like it? It sounds interesting to work on many projects and having your own studio for it. I also love Harry Potter, its one of my all time favorite movies. I went to Universal Studios this summer and went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and let me tell you how amazing it was. I bet getting to be on the actual set was pretty awesome too. Looks like you had a really fun summer, I hope to travel to Europe one day too! Good luck with rest of the semester!

  19. Trishna! So far, I am greatly intrigued by your storybook! I have enjoyed learning about Indian culture and epic stories, and I'm glad you're giving your own rendition of some very interesting ones. Your intro gave great background information and a good foundation for what is to come. Ganesha is a really cool subject to start with! I will say that in your intro, you list a lot of things off in separate sentences and it reads strangely.
Your first story is really cool! I appreciate that you included some variations in your author's note, but I think you chose a very creative version to retell.
The second story I found interesting because you broke it up into two, smaller stories rather than create one long one. I think that is a good stylistic choice for understanding and taking in the information. I think breaking them up is something you can use in future storybook sections as well.

  20. Hey Trishna! I hope your semester is going well. I don't know if I have ever met an architecture major before, that's a unique major to have. You seem to be very intrigued by the arts of cinema and storytelling, I think thats really cool. I'll bet all of that exposure helps you in courses such as this one. Moreover, I have also visited London, it is a blast! But I am super jealous that you got to spend some time in Africa. I have never been! You're time there sounds amazing. But anyway, hope you have a great semester!

  21. Hi Trishna!
First of all, I really like the design and layout you have chosen for your blog. I also like the image you have incorporated into your introduction. I think it gives your blog a nice touch! I think it’s cool that you are an architecture major and I also am a huge fan of the Harry Potter Movies. I hope you are having a good semester so far and I can’t wait to explore the rest of your blog!

  22. Trishna,

Really great to get to read your introduction as I thought I had already read about everyones introduction already but I stubbled upon yours and was happy to get to know you. I think it is great your are a architecture major as ultimately that was always my first choice for a major but knew it would be too difficult with an already packed schedule. I hope to get to read more of your stories and it was great to finally read your introduction.
