Week 14 Story: The Unknown Brother

One day Narada had a mango and he decided to go and offer it to one of Shiva’s sons. As he was making the climb up Mount Kailasa Narada wondered which of Shiva’s sons he should give the mango to. Unable to decide, Narada came up with an idea to decide who to give the mango to. Narada finally made it to the top and sitting there were the people he had come looking for. Shiva smiled and said, “What brings you here to today, Narada?” Narada smiled at Shiva and Parvati and then turned towards their sons and said, “I came to give this mango to one of your sons. I have also made a competition to decide who gets the mango. The person who can go around the world three times before the other gets the mango.” And with that statement Kartikeya jumped onto his peacock and immediately went off. As he was going around the world Ganesha just sat there and happily watched his brother going around the world. As they sat there Parvati and Narada were wondering why Ganesha did not get up

Famous Last Words: Week 13

Both my readings for this week went really well. It gave me ideas for my storybook project this next week. My best writing, and my only writing, was only in this class. It probably was not the best thing I have ever written I did it in kind of a rush. I have seen some interesting writing from other people this week. I commented on a lot of blogs this week where the author wrote stories from a person’s perspective that was rarely heard in the original story. For example, two people wrote from Yashoda’s point of view. One wrote about her experience having her child replaced with another and the other person wrote about her experience raising Krishna. My other classes are going well. Except for my studio class. This week after thanksgiving is when my final project is due which in architecture words usually means drop everything else and only do that. So we will see how well I can juggle my studio class work and class work for other classes. I made a schedule for this month for studio. I

Wikipedia Trail: From Hephaestus to Troy

Hephaestus I saw this on the announcements and chose it because I like Greek mythology. That and I literally just watched Percy Jackson. Achilles I chose to go to Achilles from there because I love his story. Iliad I chose to go to the Iliad from Achilles because I have read the Odyssey, but I have never read the Iliad. Troy (Film) I chose to go to here from the Iliad because I just love this movie.    Hephaestus and Athena                                                                                                      Troy                 Source                                                                                                                   Source

Learning Challenge: 10 Reasons to Stop Judging People

10 Reasons to Stop Judging People: I already knew to be mindful of other people. Something new I learned was to not blame yourself if your first thought is a judgmental one. I guess something I want to try is this whole step system that the article sets up. Judging Meme

Growth Mindset: Teaching Students to Embrace Mistakes

Teaching Students to Embrace Mistakes: Something that was confirmed in the article was that in order to help students fix their mistakes a teacher must be specific about their errors. I think something new I learned was that a teacher should make their students view their mistakes as helpful. I am curious to explore how I can my view my mistakes as helpful. It is something I can do more online research about and then try to incorporate into my daily school life. Mistakes Meme

Tech Tip: Canvas Mobile App

I have had the Canvas app on my iPhone for a long time. It was easy to install an there weren't any problems with it in that. I mostly use it to look at my grades and to look at any announcements made my teachers. I also use it to look up due dates, and any new assignments that teachers put up.

Famous Last Words: Week 12

My readings for this week have gone really well. I did some more videos for my reading. I am actually liking them better than the readings because I feel like I understand the stories better when they are told to me orally and seeing images rather than reading a book. I think in general the videos tend to be use more informal language which makes it to fully understand the story whereas the books tend to not do this. My best writing for this week was done for a paper I had due for my class it was also the only writing I did this week. After doing a read through my essay (which I did because I did not have a big enough word count) I was able to not only achieve a high enough word count, but I was also able to read through and edit and refine my paper more than I usually do when I write. I also feel like with the amount of writing I do in this class and the feedback I get from that writing has made me a better writer than I have been. My other classes are going good with the exception o

Wikipedia Trail: From Lancelot to Colin Morgan

Lancelot: I chose to start with Lancelot after I saw him in the class announcements because I have always loved the stories of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. Guinevere: I then went to Guinevere because I was curious on what ever happened to her after her affair with Lancelot was discovered. Merlin (2008 TV Series): I chose to go here from Guinevere's page because this is one of my favorite TV shows. Colin Morgan: I chose to come to this page from the Merlin page because I really appreciate Colin Morgan as the amazing actor he is. Tech Tip: Canvas Notifications

I like how the notifications on Canvas are set up so you whether you want to be notified right away, receive a weekly summary, receive a monthly summary, or receive nothing at all. This way you can choose any of the options for all the notification types this helps me avoid getting annoying messages every five seconds. I also like the option where you can get emails, and if you have the app you also get notified on your phone. I have set up my notifications on canvas so that I can be alerted when an assignment has been added to canvas, when there is an announcement, when an assignment has been graded, and when a new file has been added.

7 Key Maxims of a Mindset Focused on Growth Something I already knew was that success is more of a mindset rather than a skill set. How To Build A Realistic Study Plan That You'll Actually Stick To I already knew what a study plan was. Week 12 Story: Radha's Heartbreak

Radha was pacing around the lake in the village muttering to herself, “I have had enough of Krishna and his player ways.” “Who are you talking to,” said a voice from behind her. Radha whirled around and saw a mysterious man. She said, “Who are you?” The mysterious man replied, “Just a passerby who happened to hear you muttering to yourself. You know a good way to vent your anger out is to just talk about it.” Radha eyed the mysterious man and then she decided that it might be for the best if she talked to someone about it, and since she had no friends this man was just as good as any. “OK,” she said. And so her story began. “It all started many years ago. I was born and raised in a village called Gokul. My whole life I had grown up alongside Krishna, and as long as I can remember I have always loved him.  He was a very popular man among the gopis who always tried to catch his attention, but he always kept his eyes on me. I would do absolutely anything for him.

Review: Week 11

The post of the Youkai Hunters interested me because it reminds me of one of the first anime I ever watched. It was also one the article that started my Wikipedia trail. Jin's dad joke meme to get me through the week Source

Famous Last Words: Schedules

My reading for this week went well. It was the last of the videos and I am a little disappointed because I kind of like watching the videos better than reading the books because they clarified parts I got confused with in the books. I guess the only writing for this week I did was done while writing my position paper for me History of the Built Environment class. One strategy I found that worked while I was writing my paper was to just start writing and not pay attention to things like word counts or sources and that helped me to spew out my ideas and then I went back organized it and added citations and worried about word counts and such. It helped me to better work through and sort out my thoughts. I saw some really good writings from other students I really like certain storybooks. I really like the storybooks that were written to make a continuous story but took stories from different books and made them work together in a different plotline. My other classes have been going well

Wikipedia Trail: From Yokai to Rurouni Kenshin

Yokai I started off with this article because I saw something about Yokai on the class announcements, and it reminded me of one of the first anime's I had ever watched. Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan I found the link to the manga of the above mentioned anime on the Yokai page and went to it. Weekly Shonen Jump This is the magazine that the manga was serialized in and so I decided to go this page to figure out if I knew any other manga's that were also serialized in it. Rurouni Kenshin This is a manga of an anime I have watched before so that's how I ended up here from weekly shonen jump.                     Yokai                                                                     Rurouni Kenshin                     Source                                                                             Source

Tech Tip: Canvas Profile

Before I didn't have a canvas profile picture mostly because I didn't want to put my own picture on there. So for this assignment I tried changing it to a meme about my major. Profile Picture Source I chose partly because it was funny, and partly because I just recently went on a field trip with my studio class to Ft. Worth to look at three museums and I spent half my time staring at the walls and half my time staring at the art on the walls.

Growth Mindset: Giving Peer Feedback Helps Writers Grow

Giving Peer Feedback Helps Writers Grow One thing I already knew was that peer feedback helps not only writers but also anyone. One thing new I learned was that when a student works with someone else they are more focused and less likely to rush. One thing I would like to look into more is having a checklist when peer editing projects in my studio class. One way I can start doing this is by putting it into practice in my next class.
